Carpet & Good Health
In the past carpet has been unfairly labelled and singled out for it's alleged association with dust and allergies. However we are now learning that these views are little more than urban myths. In fact, there is no scientific evidence linking the presence of carpet to any respiratory allergy, including asthma.
Foe allergy and asthma sufferers, the critical issue is the amount of dust and allergens present in the air they breathe, and this has now proven to have little to do with carpet.
Research conducted shows no difference in airborne dust levels in homes with carpet, compared to homes with hard floors.
To maintain your carpet looking as good as the day it was installed and to avoid the build up of dust within it's fibres the following carpet care will provide longevity and good health.
- Vacuum twice weekly and have your carpet professionally cleaned once every 18 months. DMS Carpets only recommends dry cleaning as opposed to steam cleaning.
- Invest in a good vacuum cleaner with a power head, not only will it clean the carpet more effectively but modern cleaners employ multi-filter systems to trap the finest particles and improve indoor air quality.
- Treat spills immediately, simply blot the stain with a slightly damp cloth. DO NOT RUB!
- Periodically reposition your furniture or alternatively place small pieces of carpet left over from the installation under the legs or base of heavy furniture, beds or chairs.
- Place door mats in entrances to your home. This simple procedure will trap dirt from shoes and eliminate a huge amount of soiling and wear.
